Lincoln Floors Along the Old Highway
Lincoln has been a road town for a long time, and plenty of the epoxy flooring in Lincoln goes into places built around cars. US 66 ran straight through the city from 1926 to 1978, and Interstate 55 now carries traffic to Springfield and Bloomington. That history left the Logan County seat with garages, service bays, shops and storefronts, many of them on older concrete. We coat all of them.
Named before he was president
The town was officially named on August 27, 1853, at the first sale of lots. Local tradition says Abraham Lincoln christened it by squeezing watermelon juice on the ground, though newspaper reports show the name had been picked a few weeks earlier. He practiced law in local courtrooms from 1847 to 1859. The Logan County Courthouse was finished in 1905 and City Hall in 1895. A city with that much age has many older garages and basements, along with commercial buildings whose floors have seen generations of use.
For car people
Route 66 still draws car enthusiasts to Lincoln, which is home to the world's largest covered wagon and other Mother Road stops. Collectors and hobby mechanics usually want a garage floor that looks sharp and survives real work:
- Polyaspartic or epoxy topcoats that resist hot tire pickup
- Resistance to oil, brake fluid and coolant spills
- A flake or solid color that shows off a car
- Crack repair so a floor jack rolls smoothly
Commercial and shop floors
Lincoln's economy has shifted over the years. The Lincoln Developmental Center, once one of the county's largest employers, closed in 2002. Lincoln College closed in 2022. A Cresco Labs cultivation site replaced more than 250 jobs lost when a bottle factory closed. Whenever buildings change hands or change use, floors come up for discussion. We coat storage rooms, workshops, back-of-house areas and small warehouse spaces with thicker systems sized to the traffic and chemicals they will see.
Housing and concrete condition
Lincoln had 6,440 housing units at the 2020 census, 11.0% of them vacant. Homes that change hands often need their garage or basement concrete freshened up. Old paint, oil stains and cracks get ground out and filled before we coat. Logan County is a mandatory county for mine subsidence insurance, though its share is smaller than counties to the south: 3,959 of its 11,960 housing units sit in mine-related zones.
Basements in older Lincoln homes
Older homes near downtown often have basements with uneven floors, old paint and the occasional floor drain that sits high. We test moisture, grind away old coatings and feather in patches so water still runs to the drain. A solid-color epoxy is the common choice for laundry and storage areas. A flake system works well when the basement doubles as a gym or workshop and needs a bit more grip.

Lincoln Questions
Will hot tires lift a coated garage floor in Lincoln?
Hot tire pickup mostly happens with thin store-bought coatings over poorly prepared concrete. We diamond grind the whole slab and use resin systems rated for vehicle traffic, which is what keeps the coating bonded.
Can you coat the floor in an older commercial building downtown?
Usually, yes. Older commercial slabs often have old adhesives, paint or tile residue, so we grind them down to clean concrete first. We look at the floor and how the space will be used before recommending a system.
Do you serve homes outside the city limits in Logan County?
Yes. We coat garages, basements and machine sheds in and around Lincoln. Let us know the location when you call.
